Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Identification of the name: The manuscripts have "Abu Sa'id", whereas what is established in the printed edition agrees with the sources of his biography ("Tarikh Baghdad", "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" and others).
Grading of the hadith and corroborations: This hadith is "sahih" on account of its routes and supporting reports. Sufyan bin Husayn is thiqah, but he has been declared weak in his narration from al-Zuhri, and here he is "alone" in mentioning the recitation of the verse at its end. Hushaym corroborated him in the rest of it (al-Tahawi, al-Tabarani), but Hushaym has also been criticised in his narration from al-Zuhri. However, both of them are corroborated on the statement "A Muslim does not inherit from a disbeliever, nor a disbeliever from a Muslim" (Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it via al-Zuhri).
Reference / Source: The hadith of Sufyan bin Husayn was narrated by Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i ("al-Ghaylaniyyat" 47) via Isma'il bin al-Fadl, from Muhammad bin Aban al-Wasiti. (In its printed edition the name "Muhammad bin Yazid" has dropped out between Muhammad bin Aban and Sufyan bin Husayn.)
Supporting report: The statement "لا يتوارث أهل ملتين" (the people of two religions do not inherit from one another) is supported by the hadith of 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr, which is in Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and al-Nasa'i, and its chain is "hasan".
Supporting report (weak): Another supporting report is from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) in al-Tirmidhi (2108), and its chain has "lin" (slight weakness).
Supporting report (hasan): A third supporting report is from Ibn 'Umar in Ibn Hibban (5996), and its chain is "hasan".
