Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading of the chain: Its chain is "hasan" because of Yahya bin Isma'il al-Wasiti, despite the disagreement that occurred in the narration from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih (Dhakwan al-Samman), regarding the reading of this word and whether the hadith is marfu' or mawquf.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Dawud narrated it in "al-Masahif" (281) and Ibn al-A'rabi in his "Mu'jam" (325) from Muhammad bin Ghalib, with this same chain. Except that Ibn Abi Dawud said in it, with doubt, "malik or Malik", while Ibn al-A'rabi said "Malik" without doubt.
Reference / Source: However, al-Tahawi narrated it in "Mushkil al-Athar" (5418) from Muhammad bin 'Ali bin Dawud al-Baghdadi, from Yahya bin Isma'il, like the author's narration.
Contradiction: Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Ahmasi (who is thiqah) contradicted Yahya bin Isma'il al-Wasiti in it. Narrating it (in Ibn Abi Dawud, 282) from Muhammad bin Fudayl, he made it "mawquf" on Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "He used to recite (Malik)."
Further contradiction: Likewise, Muhammad bin Fudayl was contradicted in it by Sufyan al-Thawri (in Ibn Abi Dawud, 277-280, and al-Tahawi, "al-Mushkil" 14/ 19) and by Abu 'Awanah (in al-Tahawi). Both of them narrated it from Sulayman al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, "mawquf" on him, that he used to recite "مالِكِ يوم الدِّين".
Statement of al-Tahawi: Imam al-Tahawi said: What is narrated from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was thus strengthened in the hearts by what is narrated from him (Abu Hurayrah) himself: that after him (peace and blessings be upon him) he used to recite "Malik", not "malik".
