It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever would like to recite the Qur'an fresh just as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd (Abdullah bin Mas'ud)." This narration of Alqamah from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. My supposition is that, in their view, Alqamah bin Qays's hearing from Sayyiduna Umar is not established; and Allah knows best. And it has a detailed supporting narration (shahid) narrated from Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) as well.

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is "sahih". Although Ibn Abi Darim has been criticised, he has been "corroborated": it will come with the author (al-Hakim) by another route from Mus'ab bin al-Miqdam at number (5476). It is a portion of the previous hadith; see its takhrij there.
Technical note (hearing): As has passed, it is established that 'Alqamah bin Qays al-Nakha'i did not hear this hadith from 'Umar. Al-'Ala'i reported in "Jami' al-Tahsil" that Ahmad bin Hanbal was asked: Did 'Alqamah hear from 'Umar? He said: "They deny that." He was asked: Who denies it? He said: "The Kufans, his own companions."
