It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) with the same chain, and in it there is the addition: We went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man was sitting with him. Zirr (the narrator) says: People used to revile him! That is, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this wording.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
1/ 91. Correction and explanation: In the printed edition this word was corrupted to "yu'inunahu". Here "innahum yal'anunahu" (they curse him) refers to the Banu Umayyah and their partisans, who used to curse the Commander of the Believers 'Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) from the pulpits, until the Commander of the Believers 'Umar bin Abd al-'Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) removed this evil from them when he became caliph, and put in its place in the sermon the verse ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ﴾ [al-Nahl: 90]. This practice has continued to our own time, and what an excellent sunnah he established. (See: "Tarikh al-Islam" by al-Dhahabi 3/ 144-145, "al-Suluk fi Tabaqat al-'Ulama' wa al-Muluk" by Baha' al-Din al-Janadi al-Yamani 1/ 112, and "Mawrid al-Latafah fiman Waliya al-Saltanah wa al-Khilafah" by Ibn Taghri Birdi 1/ 91.)
Grading of the chain: Its chain is "hasan", like the previous one. Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi is "Hisham bin Abd al-Malik" and Abu 'Awanah is "Waddah bin Abdullah al-Yashkuri".
