حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الصَّغَاني، حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا داود بن أبي هِنْد، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: أَنزل اللهُ القرآنَ جملةً واحدةً إلى السماءِ (1) الدنيا ليلةَ القَدْر، ثم أُنزِلَ بعدَ ذلك بعشرين سنة: ﴿وَلَا يَأْتُونَكَ بِمَثَلٍ إِلَّا جِئْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَحْسَنَ تَفْسِيرًا﴾ [الفرقان: 33]؛ ﴿وَقُرْآنًا فَرَقْنَاهُ لِتَقْرَأَهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ عَلَى مُكْثٍ وَنَزَّلْنَاهُ تَنْزِيلًا﴾ [الإسراء: 106] (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Allah Almighty sent down the Noble Qur'an complete, all at once, to the lowest heaven on the Night of Decree; then after that it was sent down (gradually) over a period of twenty years: "And they do not bring you any example except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation" [Surah al-Furqan: 33]; and He also said: "And (it is) a Qur'an which We have divided (into parts) so that you may recite it to the people at intervals, and We have sent it down progressively" [Surah al-Isra: 106].
This hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) في النسخ الخطية: من السماء، والمثبت من "تلخيص المستدرك" للذهبي ومن "دلائل النبوة" للبيهقي 7/ 131 حيث أخرجه عن المصنف بإسناده ومتنه، وهو الصواب.
Correction of the text: In the manuscripts the wording is "min al-sama'" (from the sky), whereas the text adopted here was taken from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" and al-Bayhaqi's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (7/ 131), where he recorded it from the author (al-Hakim) with his chain and text; and this is the correct reading.
(2) إسناده صحيح.
Grading of the chain: Its chain is "sahih".
وأخرجه النسائي (11308) عن أحمد بن سليمان، عن يزيد بن هارون، بهذا الإسناد. وانظر ما قبله.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Nasa'i (11308) via Ahmad bin Sulayman from Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain. (See the previous narration.)
