Explanation & Benefits

Grading of the hadith and chain: This hadith is "sahih", and this chain is "hasan" on account of Muhammad bin Ishaq. Sufyan (bin 'Uyaynah) mentioned in the following narration that Ibn Ishaq had memorised this hadith for them, which is proof of his firmness (tathbit) in narrating it. Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (30/ 252), and by al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan" (9/ 6) and "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 155), via Abd al-Rahman bin Bishr bin al-Hakam; and by al-Fakihi in "Akhbar Makkah" (2301) via Muhammad bin Mansur. Both of them narrate it from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah with this same chain. Authentication: Al-Bayhaqi declared its chain sahih in "al-Dala'il". Reference: See the narrations after it, and numbers (3997) and (3998). Its meaning will come within the long hadith on the beginning of revelation at number (4903), via al-Zuhri from 'Urwah from 'A'ishah.
