It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I freed a slave girl of mine. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and I informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) that I had freed her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen! Had you given this slave girl to your maternal relatives (your maternal uncles' family), it would have been greater for your reward."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", but this chain is "da'if". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Because Muhammad bin Ishaq (Ibn Yasar) is a "mudallis", and he did not state explicitly that he heard it; rather, he narrated it with "'an". He has also been contradicted: Amr bin al-Harith al-Misri, Yazid bin Abi Habib and others narrated it from Bukayr, from Kurayb (the mawla of Ibn Abbas), from Maymunah, thus mentioning "Kurayb" in place of "Sulayman bin Yasar" (both are trustworthy). Reference / Source: Ahmad (44/ 26817) narrated it from Ya'la bin 'Ubayd with this same chain. Details of the narration: And it has already passed at number (1527) by way of Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir and 'Abdah bin Sulayman, both narrating from Muhammad bin Ishaq.
(1527). Note / Clarification: Rather, the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) did record it, as we have explained at number (1527).
