Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2881

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever frees a Muslim, he will be his means of release from the Fire, from Hell: every limb of his (will be saved from the Fire) in return for every limb of the other." This Abd al-A'la is, without doubt, the same Abdullah bin al-Daylami, as we mentioned concerning Gharif.

Grading: This hadith is "sahih", but this chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of "Ayyub bin Suwayd".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We think it most likely that he made a mistake in naming Ibn al-Daylami as "Abd al-A'la"; he is "Abd Allah", and that is why a mark (dabbah) has been placed over it in manuscript (Z). This is supported by the fact that in one narration from him in Ibn 'Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" (46/ 241) the name is given correctly. In any case, he is corroborated in the previous route.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "Musnad al-Shamiyyin" (41) by way of Hisham bin 'Ammar; and Abu Hafs bin Shahin in "al-Targhib" (575) by way of Ibrahim bin Munqidh; both from Ayyub bin Suwayd, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir (46/ 241) narrated it by way of Amr bin Abd Allah bin Safwan al-Nasri (the father of the hafiz Abu Zur'ah al-Dimashqi), from Ayyub bin Suwayd, from Ibrahim bin Abi 'Ablah, from Abd Allah bin al-Daylami, from Wathilah.
