(2). It is narrated from Sayyidah Furay'ah bint Malik (may Allah be pleased with her) that her husband went out in search of some of his runaway slaves and was killed at a place called al-Qadum. She relates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), explained my situation and asked permission to move to my brothers' home. He (peace and blessings be upon him) at first gave me permission, but when I turned to leave he called me and said: "Stay in your (husband's) house until the prescribed waiting period is completed."

Grading: The chain of this hadith is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Zaynab bint Ka'b (Ibn 'Ujrah) was narrated from by two of her nephews: "Sa'd bin Ishaq" - he is not "Ishaq bin Sa'd" as he is named here in the author's (al-Hakim's) narration of Hammad bin Zayd, although al-Dhuhli considered them two separate persons, as the author will quote later - and "Sulayman bin Muhammad". Both of them are trustworthy. Ibn Hibban mentioned Zaynab in "al-Thiqat" and declared her hadith sahih. Malik and al-Shafi'i used her as evidence, and likewise al-Dhuhli, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Abd al-Barr, al-Dhahabi, Ibn al-Qattan and others declared her hadith sahih. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (5694) recorded it likewise from Qutaybah bin Sa'id, from Hammad bin Zayd, from Sa'd bin Ishaq; thus he gave the correct name (Sa'd bin Ishaq), in agreement with the majority. Likewise Sa'id bin Mansur narrated it in his "Sunan" (1365) from Hammad bin Zayd, and there too the name is correct. Reference / Source: Ahmad (45/ 27363) recorded it from Bishr bin al-Mufaddal; Abu Dawud (2300), al-Tirmidhi (1204), al-Nasa'i (10977) and Ibn Hibban (4292) by way of Malik bin Anas; Ahmad (27087), al-Tirmidhi (after 1204) and al-Nasa'i (5692) by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan; Ibn Majah (2031) by way of Abu Khalid bin Sulayman bin Hayyan; al-Nasa'i (5696) by way of Sufyan al-Thawri; al-Nasa'i (5692) and Ibn Hibban (4293) by way of Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj; al-Nasa'i (5692) by way of Ibn Jurayj and Muhammad bin Ishaq; and (5693) by way of Yazid bin Muhammad al-Muttalibi. All of them narrate it likewise from "Sa'd bin Ishaq". Details of the narration: And this narration will come after it by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari, from Sa'd bin Ishaq. Note / Clarification: "Al-a'laj" means: slaves; it is the plural of "'ilj". Originally, "'ilj" refers to a man from among the non-Arab disbelievers and others. Note / Clarification: "Al-Qadum" (with a fathah on the qaf and a dammah on the undotted dal, pronounced with or without doubling): it is the name of a place six miles from Madinah.
