It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever kills a mu'ahad (a non-Muslim granted a covenant of safety) without just cause, Allah will forbid Paradise for him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (34/20377) through Waki' bin al-Jarrah. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad recorded it (20377) from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abdullah bin Yazid and (20403) from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, and al-Nasa'i (6923) via Khalid bin al-Harith; all of them narrate it from 'Uyaynah bin 'Abd al-Rahman. Details of the narration: Yahya al-Qattan added these words: "Allah has forbidden Paradise to him, that he should find its fragrance". (2611). Important point: See the detailed discussion on this at the earlier number (2611). Note / Clarification: Regarding the words of the hadith "fi ghayri kunhihi", Ibn al-Athir says in "al-Nihayah": "kunh" means the reality of a matter, or its time and measure, or its extreme limit. That is, whoever killed someone outside its lawful time, or outside the extreme circumstance in which killing is permitted.
