It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained spoils of war, he would order Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he would call out three times. Then the people would bring what they had obtained, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would order that the fifth (khums) be taken out of it. Once a man came with a rope made of hair after the spoils had already been distributed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Did you hear Bilal calling out three times?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then what prevented you from bringing this?" He offered an excuse, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection you yourself will bring it (this act of treachery); I will never accept it from you now."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although this chain is weak because of the weakness of Ayyub bin Suwayd, he is not alone in it; rather, he is corroborated at no. (2615), and 'Amir bin 'Abd al-Wahid is "saduq" (truthful), whose hadith is hasan.
