Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in the narrators of this chain except "Kathir", the mawla of Banu Makhzum, because only Ibrahim bin Sa'd narrated from him, and no one has explicitly declared him trustworthy.
Important point: He is not "Kathir bin Kathir al-Makhzumi", as the author (al-Hakim) stated decisively after the hadith, because that Kathir is by lineage a Sahmi, not a Makhzumi nor a mawla of theirs; Imam al-Bukhari and others also distinguished between the two. Despite this, Imam al-Tabari declared this chain sahih in "Tahdhib al-Athar" (996, 997), and there are also supporting reports for this narration.
