حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى، حدثنا مُسدَّد، حدثنا هُشَيم، حدثنا الشَّيباني وأشعث بن سَوّار، عن محمد بن أبي المُجالِد، قال: بعثني أهلُ المسجد إلى ابن أبي أَوفى أسألُه ما صنعَ النبيُّ ﷺ في طعام خيبرَ، فأتيتُه فسألتُه عن ذلك، فقلت: هل خَمَّسه؟ قال: لا، كان أقلَّ من ذلك، وكان أحدُنا إذا أراد شيئًا أخذَ منه حاجتَه (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Abi al-Mujalid: The people of the mosque sent me to Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did with the food obtained at Khaybar. I went and asked him this very question: Did he (peace and blessings be upon him) take out a fifth (khums) from it? He said: No, it was less (significant) than that; whoever among us needed something would take from it according to his need.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. مُسدَّد: هو ابن مُسَرْهَد، وهُشيم: هو ابن بَشير الواسطي، والشَّيبانيّ: هو أبو إسحاق سليمان بن أبي سليمان.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the chain, "Musaddad" refers to Musaddad bin Musarhad, "Hushaym" to Hushaym bin Bashir al-Wasiti, and "al-Shaybani" to Abu Ishaq Sulayman bin Abi Sulayman.
وأخرجه أحمد (31/ 19124) عن هُشَيم بن بَشير، عن أبي إسحاق الشَّيباني وحده، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at (31/ 19124) by way of Hushaym bin Bashir from Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani alone.
وقد تقدم برقم (2610) من طريق أبي معاوية عن أبي إسحاق الشَّيباني.
Reference / Source: It has preceded at no. (2610) by way of Abu Mu'awiyah from Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani.
