مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْجَمَاعَةِ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِسْلَامِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعَهُ
Whoever leaves the community by a handspan has removed the noose of Islam from his neck until he returns

حدَّثَناه أبو بكر بن إسحاق، حدثنا أبو المثنَّى ومحمد بن أيوب قالا: حدثنا مسدَّد، حدثنا خالد بن الحارث، حدثنا حُمَيد، عن أنس قال: دخلتُ على عُبيد الله بن زياد وهم يتراجعون في ذِكْر الحوض، قال: فقال: جاءكم أنسٌ، قال: يا أنسُ، ما تقولُ في الحوض؟ قال: قلت: ما حَسِبتُ أني أعيشُ حتى أَرى مِثلَكم يَمتَرُونَ في الحوض، لقد تركتُ بعدي عجائزَ ما تُصلي واحدةٌ منهن صلاةً إلّا سألت ربَّها أن يُورِدَها حوضَ محمد ﷺ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وله عن حُميد شاهد صحيح على شرطهما:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I went to Ubaydullah bin Ziyad while they (he and his companions) were arguing back and forth about the Pool of al-Kawthar. He said: Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) has come to you. Then he asked: O Anas! What do you say about the Pool? I said: I never imagined I would live long enough to see people like you doubting and arguing about the Pool. I have left behind me old women, not one of whom prays a prayer without asking her Lord to bring her to the Pool of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

وأخرجه الحسين المروزي في زياداته على "زهد ابن المبارك" (1609)، والآجري في "الشريعة" ¤ ¤ (838)، والبيهقي في "البعث والنشور" (158) من طريقين عن حميد الطويل، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Husayn al-Marwazi in his additions (ziyadat) to "Zuhd Ibn al-Mubarak" (1609), al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (838), and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Ba'th wa al-Nushur" (158) narrated it via two routes from Humayd al-Tawil.
وأخرجه ابن أبي شيبة 10/ 449، وابن أبي عاصم في "السنة" (698)، وأبو يعلى (3355) من طريق ثابت البناني، عن أنس. وانظر "مسند أحمد" 21/ (13405).
