مَا نَقَضَ قَوْمٌ الْعَهْدَ قَطُّ إِلَّا كَانَ الْقَتْلُ بَيْنَهُمْ وَلَا ظَهَرَتِ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي قَوْمٍ إِلَّا سَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَوْتَ وَلَا مَنَعَ قَوْمٌ الزَّكَاةَ إِلَّا حَبَسَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمُ الْقَطْرَ .
No people ever break a covenant except that killing occurs among them, and indecency does not appear among a people except that Allah sends death upon them

حدثنا أبو علي الحسين بن علي الحافظ، حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن ناجيَة، حدثنا أبو كُريب، حدثنا أبو معاوية، حدثنا أبو إسحاق الشَّيباني، عن محمد ابن أبي المُجالِد، عن عبد الله بن أبي أَوفى قال: قلتُ: هل كنتم تخمِّسون الطعامَ في عهدِ رسول الله ﷺ؟ فقال: أصبْنا طعامًا يوم خيبر، وكان الرجل يجيءُ فيأخذُ منه بمِقدار ما يكفيه، ثم ينصرفُ (1). صحيح على شرط البخاري، فقد احتجَّ بمحمد بن أبي المجالد وعبد الله بن أبي المجالد جميعًا، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): I asked him: Did you people take out a fifth (khums) from foodstuffs in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: We obtained some food on the day of Khaybar; a man would come and take from it as much as he needed, and then go away (no khums was taken from it).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari, for he used both Muhammad bin Abi al-Mujalid and Abdullah bin Abi al-Mujalid as evidence, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. أبو كريب: هو محمد بن العلاء، وأبو معاوية: هو محمد بن خازم الضرير، وأبو إسحاق الشَّيباني: هو سليمان بن أبي سليمان.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Identification of names: Abu Kurayb is Muhammad bin al-Ala', Abu Mu'awiyah is Muhammad bin Khazim al-Darir, and Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani is Sulayman bin Abi Sulayman.
وأخرجه أبو داود (2704) عن أبي كريب محمد بن العلاء، بهذا الإسناد.
