Grading: The chain is hasan. Identification of names: Whether Abu al-Anbas is the elder Kufan (Abd Allah bin Marwan) or al-Harith bin Ubayd (the grandfather of Yunus bin Bukayr), Shu'bah and Mis'ar narrate from both of them, and Imam al-Dhahabi called both "saduq" (truthful). Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (2691) and al-Nasa'i (8607) narrated it via the route of Abd al-Rahman bin al-Mubarak al-Ayshi. Details of the narration: This narration will come later at no. (2653) via the route of Abu Bahr al-Bakrawi from Shu'bah. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abd al-Razzaq (9394) and al-Tabarani (12154) narrated from Ibn Abbas via another route that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fixed the ransom of the captives of Badr at four thousand (4000) per person. There is a possibility of this chain being "hasan". Grading: Likewise this narration is reported "mursal" from Ikrimah, the client of Ibn Abbas (Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd: 2/ 23), and all its narrators are trustworthy. Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is also reported mursal from Abbad bin Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr (Sirat Ibn Hisham: 1/ 648). Al-Tabarani narrated it as connected (mawsul), but the correct view is that it is "mursal". In this narration the figure of four thousand is also qualified with "dirhams". General principle: The reconciliation between the narrations of 400 and 4000 is that 400 refers to "dinars", which equal 4000 "dirhams". Important point: According to the scholars of the Sirah, the ransom was not the same for all but varied. According to Ikrimah, the ransom ranged from 4000 dirhams down to lower amounts, so much so that for those who knew how to write, their ransom was fixed as teaching (Muslim) children to write. (Kitab al-Amwal: 309). 2/ 20. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar narration from Imam al-Sha'bi is found in Kitab al-Amwal (308) and Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd (2/ 20). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a ransom of 20 uqiyyahs from al-Abbas (the author (al-Hakim), no. 5496, hasan chain). One uqiyyah is 40 dirhams (i.e. 800 dirhams in total).
