Abdullah bin Iyad bin al-Harith al-Ansari narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to confront the tribe of Hawazin with an army of twelve thousand. On the day of Hunayn, as many of the people of Ta'if were killed as had been killed at the Battle of Badr. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took a handful of pebbles and threw them towards our faces, and we (the disbelievers) were defeated and fled.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak because Abd Allah bin Iyad is unknown (majhul). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Qilabah (Abd al-Malik al-Raqashi) is alone in this narration in attributing Abd Allah bin Abd al-Rahman and his shaykh Abd Allah bin Iyad as "Ansari", and he has contradicted the other narrators. Likewise he gave the name of Abd Allah bin Iyad's grandfather as "al-Harith", which no one else mentioned. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (5/ 142) via Imam al-Hakim with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn Sa'd (2/ 143), Imam al-Bukhari in al-Tarikh al-Kabir (7/ 19) without a chain (ta'liqan), Ibn Abi Asim (1588), al-Tabarani (1010) and Abu Nu'aym (5435) narrated it via routes from Abu Asim. (1777). Grading: The part about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) throwing pebbles at the polytheists until they were defeated is established and sahih from the narrations of Sahih Muslim (1775) from al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib and (1777) from Salamah bin al-Akwa'.
