It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Najih al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We besieged the fortress of Ta'if, and I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever shoots an arrow in the cause of Allah will have a reward equal to freeing a slave, and whoever makes an arrow reach (the enemy) in the cause of Allah will have a rank in Paradise." So (that day) I made sixteen arrows reach (the enemy).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), because this Abu Najih is in fact Amr bin Abasah al-Sulami.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Identification of names: Abu Qudamah is Ubayd Allah bin Sa'id al-Sarakhsi, Hisham is Hisham bin Abi Abd Allah al-Dastuwa'i, Qatadah is Ibn Di'amah, and Abu Najih al-Sulami is the Companion Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it (3965) via Muhammad bin al-Muthanna with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Ahmad (17022, 19428), al-Nasa'i (4336) and Ibn Hibban (4615) narrated it via the route of Hisham al-Dastuwa'i. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (19429) also narrated it via the route of Sa'id bin Abi Arubah from Qatadah. Details of the narration: It will come later as part of a long hadith at no. (4419) via the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad bin Mansur from Mu'adh bin Hisham. Note / Clarification: The first part of this narration has passed on its own at no. (2500) via the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad bin Mansur from Mu'adh bin Hisham, and a similar narration is reported at no. (2501) via the route of al-Qasim (the client of Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid al-Dimashqi) from Amr bin Anbasah. 6/ 2503. Important point: The word "balagha" (without doubling) means that he reached the enemy with an arrow; here the "ba'" is for transitivity. Another view is that it is "ballagha" (with doubling), meaning whoever reached the battlefield with an arrow, even if he did not shoot it; here the "ba'" denotes accompaniment (mulabasah).
