Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2569

Through another chain it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said something similar.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration. Although the two Shaykhs did not record the hadiths of Sa'id bin Bashir and Sufyan bin Husayn, these two are imams of Syria and Iraq, and their hadiths are compiled. In my view, the two Shaykhs relied in this matter on the mursal narration of Imam Ma'mar (which he narrated from al-Zuhri).

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because of the weakness of Sa'id bin Bashir and the weakness of Sufyan bin Husayn in narrating from al-Zuhri. The senior students of Imam al-Zuhri contradicted them.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (2580) via Mahmud bin Khalid.

Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Other narrators also narrated it from Imam al-Zuhri in the same way, as Imam Abu Dawud mentioned after (2580).

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Jurayj is Abd al-Malik bin Abd al-Aziz al-Makki.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (5/ 3124), al-Bukhari (4584), Muslim (1834), Abu Dawud (2624), al-Tirmidhi (1672) and al-Nasa'i (8673) and (11044) narrated it via routes from Hajjaj bin Muhammad.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the imams named the Companion "Abd Allah bin Hudhafah" except Imam Abu Dawud, who called him "Abd Allah bin Qays" (which is an attribution to his grandfather). Imam al-Hakim's listing it as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
