It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khuraym bin Fatik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People are of four kinds, and deeds are of six kinds: two deeds make (something) obligatory, one deed is repaid with its equal, one tenfold, and one seven hundredfold. Whoever dies in a state of disbelief, the Fire becomes obligatory for him, and whoever dies in a state of faith, Paradise becomes obligatory for him. When a servant commits an evil deed, he is repaid only with its equal; when a servant intends a good deed, the reward of ten good deeds is written for him; and when a servant spends something in the way of Allah, it is multiplied for him seven hundredfold. And people are of four kinds: one who is given abundance in this world and also in the Hereafter; one who is given abundance in this world but has hardship in the Hereafter; one who is given hardship in this world but abundance in the Hereafter; and one who is wretched in (both) this world and the Hereafter."

Grading: The hadith is "qawi" (strong), but this particular chain is weak because of the weakness of Maslamah bin Ja'far. Technical note: Maslamah dropped the name "al-Rabi' bin Umaylah" from the chain, whereas the correct form is that al-Rukayn narrates from his father al-Rabi', and he from al-Rukayn's paternal uncle Yusayr, as Imam al-Bukhari stated explicitly. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad and Ibn Hibban narrated it via Shayban al-Nahwi with the complete chain (including al-Rabi' bin Umaylah). Technical note: Al-Mas'udi's narration has a break, and since Yazid bin Harun and Abu al-Nadr heard from al-Mas'udi after his "ikhtilat" (deterioration of memory), only the narration of Shayban al-Nahwi is correct and acceptable. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A brief mention of spending in the path of Allah has already passed via Za'idah from al-Rukayn.
