It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever guards the frontier (ribat) for a day and a night in the path of Allah will have the reward of fasting a month and standing its nights in prayer. And whoever dies while guarding the frontier (as a murabit), that deed of his will continue (until the Day of Resurrection), he will continue to be given provision, and he will be safe from the trial of the grave."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Ibn Wahb is 'Abd Allah, and Shurahbil is Ibn al-Simt. Reference / Source: Muslim (1913), al-Nasa'i (4362) and Ibn Hibban narrated it via al-Layth bin Sa'd. Important point: Al-Hakim's including it in al-Mustadrak is a slip on his part, because it is in Sahih Muslim. Grading: Ibn Hibban narrated it via al-Nu'man bin al-Mundhir al-Ghassani from Makhul with the words: "Whoever dies guarding the frontier is kept safe from the punishment of the grave." Its chain is qawi (strong). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (23736) narrated it via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Thawri narrated it as "mawquf", but through other routes it is established as "marfu'" (a saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)), so its being mawquf does no harm. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Tirmidhi (1665) narrated it via Muhammad bin al-Munkadir from Salman, but said that this chain is not connected, because Ibn al-Munkadir's hearing from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it via Ibn Lahi'ah from 'Ubayd Allah bin Abi Ja'far. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (23735) narrated it via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit from 'Abd Allah bin Abi Zakariyya. Note / Clarification: See the next narration. Note / Clarification: "Al-fattan" refers to the punishment of the grave, as stated explicitly in Ibn Hibban's narration via al-Nu'man al-Ghassani.
