It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bashir bin al-Khasasiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to pledge allegiance to him on Islam, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) set these conditions for me: "That you bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger, that you perform the five prayers, fast Ramadan, pay the zakah, perform Hajj to the House (of Allah) and strive in the path of Allah." He says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Two of these I am not able to bear. One is zakah, for I have only ten she-camels, which are my family's source of milk and serve to carry their loads. The other is jihad, for people say that whoever turns his back (on the battlefield) returns with the wrath of Allah, and I fear that when the time of fighting comes I will dislike death and my soul will show cowardice. (The narrator says that on hearing this) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drew back his hand, then moved it and said: "Neither zakah nor jihad! Then by what will you enter Paradise?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! I pledge allegiance to you (on all of them). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) took my pledge on all of these matters.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it. Bashir bin al-Khasasiyah is among those listed as Companions from the Ansar.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscript (B) has "khasha'at", but the correct form is "jasha'at" (with jim), as Ibn al-Athir in "al-Nihayah" explained it as fear of separation or eagerness for life.
Grading: Its narrators are trustworthy except Abu al-Muthanna al-'Abdi, but al-'Ijli and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy, so his hadith may be "hasan". Technical note / Defect ('illah): This narration appears to contradict the sahih hadith about the delegation of Thaqif, in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted their condition of not performing jihad, but said that after accepting Islam they would perform jihad of their own accord. Reference / Source: This narration of Bashir bin al-Khasasiyah was narrated by Imam Ahmad (21952) via Zakariyya bin 'Adi from 'Ubayd Allah bin 'Amr al-Raqqi. Note / Clarification: "Rasal" refers to milk-giving animals whose milk is for the benefit of the family. Note / Clarification: "Hamulah" refers to a camel on which loads are carried; here it means a group or herd of camels.
