Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2437

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at al-Rawha when a Bedouin came down from a height to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "Who are these people, and where do you intend to go?" He was told: "They are (heading to) Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "Why is it that I see you in a shabby state and with few weapons?" The Companions replied: "We are awaiting one of two good things: either we are killed and then we get Paradise, or we prevail and Allah combines both for us, that is, victory and Paradise." He asked: "Where is your Prophet?" They said: "Here he is." He said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Prophet of Allah! I do not have my war equipment (weapons) with me; let me fetch my equipment and then I will join you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to your family and fetch your equipment." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for Badr, and the man went home until he had finished what he needed. Then he joined the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Badr while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was arranging the people in ranks for battle. He too joined the ranks with them. Then the people fought, and he was among those whom Allah granted the rank of martyrdom. When Allah had defeated the polytheists and granted victory to the believers, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed among the martyrs, with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) accompanying him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar, listen! You love accounts (of wisdom and lessons). Indeed, the martyrs too have their chiefs, nobles and kings, and O Umar, this man is one of them."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: It refers to a high place overlooking its surroundings; apparently it is the place called "Sharaf al-Rawha'", a village 74 kilometres from Madinah on the way to Makkah.

Grading: Its chain is weak due to the weakness of Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Nistas; Imam al-Dhahabi called him "wahin" (very weak).

Note / Clarification: "Badhdhat hay'atikum" means your clothing being worn out, or your appearance being dishevelled.
Note / Clarification: "Maslahah" apparently refers to the military equipment by which the affairs of fighting are set right.
