Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2426

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The dust of the path of Allah and the smoke of Hell can never be gathered in the belly of a servant, and miserliness and faith can never be gathered in the heart of a servant."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its first portion is sahih, while the second portion is known only through this route.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because "Abu al-Lajlaj" is unknown, and there is also disagreement over his name, as we explained earlier under the disagreement in the chains on Suhayl. The narrator Jarir is Ibn 'Abd al-Hamid.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i narrated it at (4303) through the chain of Ishaq bin Rahawayh from Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid, but in it Abu al-Lajlaj is named "al-Qa'qa' bin al-Lajlaj".
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i narrated it at (4305) via Yazid bin 'Abd Allah bin al-Hadi, and Ibn Hibban at (3251) via Khalid bin 'Abd Allah al-Wasiti; both narrate it from Suhayl bin Abi Salih, and they too named Abu al-Lajlaj "al-Qa'qa' bin al-Lajlaj".
Note / Clarification: This narration will come next via Hammad bin Salamah from Suhayl bin Abi Salih.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (7480, 9693) and al-Nasa'i (4306, 4307) narrated it via Muhammad bin 'Amr bin 'Alqamah from Safwan bin Abi Yazid, but he named Abu al-Lajlaj "Husayn bin al-Lajlaj". Al-Nasa'i (4308) narrated it via 'Ubayd Allah bin Abi Ja'far from "Abu al-'Ala' bin al-Lajlaj" from Abu Hurayra as "mawquf".
Note / Clarification: Its first portion will come from Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) with another sahih chain at hadith number (7860).
