Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2424

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The first party to enter Paradise will be the poor among the Muhajirun, through whom hardships and adversities were faced. When they were given a command, they listened and obeyed. If one of them had a need that depended on the ruler of the time, he would die without it being fulfilled, with that need still in his breast. On the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will call Paradise, and it will come with all its adornment and beauty. Then Allah will say: Where are My servants who fought in My path, were killed, were harmed in My path and strove in My path? Enter Paradise, all of you. So they will enter it without any reckoning or punishment. Then the angels will come and say: Our Lord! We glorify You night and day and proclaim Your holiness; who are these whom You have preferred over us? Then the Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: These are the ones who fought in My path and bore hardships for My sake. Then the angels will enter upon them from every gate, saying: 'Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured; how excellent is the final home!' [Surah al-Ra'd: 24]"

Explanation & Benefits

Note / Clarification: In manuscript (Z) the word "yadkhulun" appears.

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Ibn Wahb in the chain is 'Abd Allah bin Wahb, and Abu 'Ushshanah is Hayy bin Yu'min.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated this in al-Musnad 11/ (6570) and Ibn Hibban at (7421) via Ma'ruf bin Suwayd al-Judhami, and Imam Ahmad at (6571) via 'Abd Allah bin Lahi'ah; both of them (Ma'ruf and Ibn Lahi'ah) narrate it from Abu 'Ushshanah al-Ma'afiri.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad at (6650) narrated it in abridged form via Sufyan bin 'Awf from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr with the words: "Some people of my Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection whose light will be like the light of the sun." We asked: O Messenger of Allah, who are they? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are the poor among the Emigrants through whom hardships are warded off; one of them dies while his need remains (pent up) in his chest; they will be gathered from the far corners of the earth."
Grading: Its chain is hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although 'Abd Allah bin Lahi'ah is in its chain, this narration was transmitted from him by 'Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak and Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri', and both are among those who heard from Ibn Lahi'ah early, before his books were burned (which is why the narration is reliable).
