Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 233

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My intercession is for those of my Ummah who commit major sins." Abu Ja'far (the narrator) said: Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: O Muhammad! Whoever is not among those who commit major sins, what need has he of intercession? (That is, intercession exists precisely for sinners.)

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: As mentioned before, this hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", but this particular chain is da'if because of the weakness of Muhammad bin Thabit al-Bunani; however, as in the previous hadith, there is a corroboration here too.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Dawud here is Sulayman bin Dawud al-Tayalisi.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi narrated it (2436) by way of Muhammad bin Bashshar alone, with this same chain.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi declared it a "hasan hadith".
