Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2318

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Iyas bin Abd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to the people: Do not sell surplus water, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of water.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Ibn Jurayj explicitly stated that he heard it from 'Amr bin Dinar, in the narrations of Imam Ahmad and al-Nasa'i.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (15444) and al-Nasa'i (6214) recorded it through Ibn Jurayj. Rawh's narration adds: "People used to sell the water of the Euphrates, so he forbade them."
