It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade every predatory beast (animals with fangs), the killing of children, and buying and selling the spoils of war before they are distributed.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording. It also has an authentic supporting report (shahid).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Note / Clarification: Shayban refers to Ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Nahwi, al-A'mash to Sulayman bin Mihran, and Mujahid to Ibn Jabr. Repetition: This narration will come again with this same chain at number (2646), but with these words: "On the day of Khaybar the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade domestic donkeys, having intercourse with pregnant slave-women until they give birth, predators with fangs, and selling the fifth (khums) of the war booty before it is distributed". Repetition: With the same wording, this narration will come at numbers (2367) and (2644) by way of Abd Allah bin Abi Najih, from Mujahid, in which the word "maghanim" (war booty) appears instead of "khums". Repetition: Only this part of the hadith (the sale of war booty) will come again in the next chain and at number (2645) by way of Abd Allah bin Abi Najih. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (5/ 3002) narrated only the prohibition of predators with fangs, with the chain Sharik al-Nakha'i, from al-A'mash. Also, Sahih Muslim (1934), Abu Dawud and Ibn Hibban narrated it by way of Maymun bin Mihran, with the addition of the prohibition of birds with "hunting talons" (mikhlab). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (5/ 3141), Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and al-Nasa'i also narrated it with the chain Maymun bin Mihran, from Sa'id bin Jubayr, in which the prohibition of birds of prey is mentioned. (3803). Study: For details of this variation (difference in the chain), see our critical edition (tahqiq) of Sunan Abi Dawud (3803). Reference / Source: Sahih Muslim (1812) records from Yazid bin Hurmuz that Ibn Abbas wrote to Najdah bin Amir: you asked about killing children, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not kill them.
