أخبرنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن الفضل بن موسى القُسْطاني، حدثنا هارون بن موسى، حدثنا أبو ضَمْرة، عن يحيى بن سعيد، أخبرني ابن جُرَيج، حدثنا أبو الزُّبَير، أنه سمع جابر بن عبد الله يقول: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "إن بعْتَ أخاك تمَراتٍ، فأصابَتْه جائحةٌ، فلا يَحِلُّ لك أن تأخذَ منه شيئًا، لِمَ تأخذُ مالَ أخيكَ بغيرِ إذنه؟! " (1). هذا حديث غريب صحيح على شرط الشيخين. ورواه محمد بن ثَور عن ابن جُرَيج: [التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] ترقيم العلميه 2256 - على شرط البخاري ومسلم
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you sell dates to your brother and then a calamity (from the sky) strikes them, it is not lawful for you to take anything from him. Why would you take your brother's wealth without his permission?!"
This hadith is gharib (rare) and sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim).

Grading: The hadith is "sahih", and the chain is "hasan" because of Muhammad bin al-Fadl al-Qustani, since he is saduq, and there is corroboration for him Note / Clarification: Harun bin Musa is al-Farwi, and Abu Damrah refers to Anas bin Iyad. وأخرجه مسلم (1554)، وأبو داود (3470) من طريق عبد الله بن وهب، ومسلم (1554)، وأبو داود (3470)، وابن حبان (5035) من طريق أبي عاصم الضحاك بن مخلد، وابن ماجه (2219)، والنسائي (6074) من طريق ثور بن يزيد، والنسائي (6073)، وابن حبان (5034) من طريق حجاج بن محمد، أربعتهم عن ابن جُرَيج، به. Reference / Source: Muslim (1554), Abu Dawud (3470), Ibn Hibban, Ibn Majah (2219) and al-Nasa'i narrated it through various routes with the chain of Ibn Jurayj. وسيأتي برقم (2305) من طريق سليمان بن عتيق عن جابر، بلفظ: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ وضع الجوائح. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration will come later at number (2305) by way of Sulayman bin Atiq, in these words: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the loss be remitted in the case of calamities (jawa'ih)". والجائحة: هي الآفة. Note / Clarification: "Al-ja'ihah" means a calamity or blight that destroys the crop.
