Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2267

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought a camel from a Bedouin in exchange for dates. He (peace and blessings be upon him) thought that he had the dates with him, but it turned out that some were there and some were not. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Would you be willing to take some of your dates now and take the rest at the time of harvest?" He refused, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) borrowed the dates for him and paid them to him.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "jayyid". Although Yahya bin Sallam is disputed, he is closer to the trustworthy narrators
Important point: Abu Hatim, Abu Zur'ah, al-Dani and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy or called him saduq. Imam al-Dhahabi's calling him weak without qualification in "al-Talkhis" is not correct, while he himself inclined towards strengthening him in "Tarikh al-Islam"; moreover, corroboration (mutaba'ah) for him also exists.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is a difference over whether this hadith from Hisham bin Urwah is connected (mawsul) or mursal: a group of narrators such as Hammad bin Salamah and Ibn Ishaq narrated it as connected, while Hammad bin Zayd and others narrated it as mursal
Grading: Although al-Daraqutni declared the mursal version correct, because a large group of narrators narrated it as connected, its being "mawsul" is also not objectionable (it is acceptable).
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi, Imam Ahmad (43/ 26312), Abu al-Shaykh and al-Baghawi narrated it "mawsul" from Hisham bin Urwah through the various routes of Muhammad bin Ishaq, Yahya bin Umayr and others.
Variation in the chain: Waki', Abdah bin Sulayman and Ma'mar bin Rashid narrated it from Hisham bin Urwah as "mursal" (that is, without mentioning the Companion).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration has also come from Urwah bin al-Zubayr through another connected route:
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi narrated it with the chain Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Ja'far, from Urwah, from Aishah; this route is sufficient to strengthen the hadith's being connected.
Note / Clarification: "Al-jadad" means harvesting dates (picking the fruit).
Note / Clarification: "Al-jazur" means a camel, whether male or female; in Arabic this word is used only as feminine.
