It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Iblis has despaired of idols being worshipped in the land of the Arabs, but he will be content with less than that from you, namely those deeds of yours which you consider trivial, though they are destructive. So beware of wrongdoing and violating the rights of others as much as you can, for a servant will come on the Day of Resurrection with so many good deeds that he will think they will save him. But one servant after another will stand up and say: 'O my Lord, so-and-so wronged me in such-and-such a way,' and it will be said: 'Erase from his good deeds,' until not a single good deed remains with him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrih" and the chain is "hasan" Criticism of a narrator: Although Ibrahim al-Hajari is weak, Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated from him the first part of this hadith (Satan's despair), which is acceptable Important point: The second part of the hadith is also narrated from Ibn Mas'ud through other routes; although there is disagreement over whether it is marfu' or mawquf, it has supporting reports through which it is established as sahih overall. Note / Clarification: Abu al-Muthanna is Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna, and Abu al-Ahwas is Awf bin Malik al-Jushami. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (7067) with this same chain of Imam al-Hakim. Reference / Source: Abu Ya'la (5122) and al-Bayhaqi narrated it through the route of Ibrahim al-Hajari. Reference / Source: Al-Humaydi (98) narrated its first part through the chain of Sufyan bin Uyaynah. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of Sufyan and Muhammad bin Dinar has this addition: "Beware of minor sins, for they are destructive"; and they are likened to a caravan that gathers sticks and lights a fire; in the same way minor sins gather together and destroy a person. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The first part is supported by the sahih hadith of Abu Hurayrah (Musnad Ahmad 14/ 8810): "Satan has despaired of being worshipped in this land of yours". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is also supported by the hadith of Sulayman bin Amr (Ibn Majah 3055), which Imam al-Tirmidhi called "hasan sahih". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The third supporting report is the narration of Ibn Abbas, which has already passed with the author (al-Hakim) at number (322), although its chain has some weakness. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The fourth supporting report is the narration of Jabir bin Abd Allah in "Sahih Muslim" (2812): Satan has despaired of those who pray worshipping him in the Arabian Peninsula, but he will keep trying to stir up strife (tahrish) among them. Reference / Source: Al-Khara'iti narrated the second part in "Masawi' al-Akhlaq" (642) through the chain of Ibrahim al-Hajari. Reference / Source: Al-Mu'afa bin Imran narrated it in "al-Zuhd", and al-Dinawari, through the "hasan" chain of Zadhan from Ibn Mas'ud, as "mawquf". Reference / Source: Abu Uthman al-Nahdi narrated it from Ibn Mas'ud and other Companions; it will come later at numbers (2299) and (8929). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This part is supported by the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in Sahih al-Bukhari (2449) and Muslim: "Whoever has wronged his brother in his honour or in anything, let him seek his pardon today, before the day comes when there will be neither dinar nor dirham". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Another narration with the same meaning, from Abd Allah bin Umar bin al-Khattab, will come after it. (1897). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The third supporting report is the narration of Buraydah al-Aslami in "Sahih Muslim" (1897).
