Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2218

(1) وقع في (ز): المحارمي، بالميم بدل الباء الموحدة، مصححًا عليها، وهو خطأ، والصواب المحاربي، كما وقع في (ص) وغيرها، وقد ذكر هذا الرجلَ في وفد بني محارب غيرُ واحد من أصحاب السير والمغازي، كابن سعد في "الطبقات" 1/ 258، وانظر "أسد الغابة" لابن الأثير 2/ 330.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (Z) it is written "al-Muharimi" (with a mim), which is a distortion (error); the correct word is "al-Muharibi" (with a ba), as in manuscript (S) and others
Reference / Source: Several imams of the Sirah and the Maghazi mentioned this man among the delegation of Banu Muharib, such as Ibn Sa'd in "al-Tabaqat" (1/ 258) and Ibn al-Athir in "Usd al-Ghabah" (2/ 330).

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لجهالة محمد بن زرارة بن عبد الله بن خزيمة، فلم يرو عنه غير زيد بن الحُباب، وقد روى عبدة بن عبد الله أيضًا عن زيد بن الحباب عن محمد بن زرارة قال: حدثني المطلب بن عبد الله بن حنطب، قال: قلت لبني سواء بن الحارث: أبوكم الذي جحد بيعة رسول الله ﷺ … أخرجه ابن منده في "معرفة الصحابة" 1/ 809، وعنه أبو نعيم ¤ ¤ في "المعرفة" (3564)، وهذا أشبه في رواية محمد بن زرارة، لأنَّ الزُّهْري قد خالفه كما في الطريق الذي قبله فأسنده عن عمارة بن خزيمة عن عمه، فجعله عن عم عمارة بن خزيمة، وليس عن أبيه، وإن كان عمارة يروي عن أبيه غير ما حديثٍ، والله تعالى أعلم.
Grading: The hadith is "sahih"
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because Muhammad bin Zurarah is majhul (unknown), since only Zayd bin al-Hubab narrated from him; Abdah bin Abd Allah also narrated through the chain of Zayd bin al-Hubab from Muhammad bin Zurarah that al-Muttalib bin Abd Allah said: I said to Banu Sawa' bin al-Harith: your father is the one who denied the pledge to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)…
Reference / Source: Ibn Mandah narrated it in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (1/ 809) and, from him, Abu Nu'aym in "al-Ma'rifah" (3564)
Important point: In the narration of Muhammad bin Zurarah this (mention of the father) is more likely, because Imam al-Zuhri contradicted him (as passed in the previous route) and narrated it from Umarah bin Khuzaymah from his uncle; so he narrated it from Umarah's uncle and not from his father, even though Umarah narrates a number of other hadiths from his father, and Allah knows best.
وأخرجه البيهقي 10/ 146 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it at (10/ 146) through Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن أبي شيبة في "مسنده" (19)، والبخاري في "تاريخه الكبير" 1/ 87، وابن أبي عاصم في "الآحاد والمثاني" (2084)، وأبو يعلى في "مسنده الكبير" كما في "المطالب العالية" (4019/ 3)، وابن المنذر في "الأوسط" (6752)، والطبراني في "الكبير" (3730)، وأبو نعيم في "معرفة الصحابة" (2357)، والخطيب في "الأسماء المبهمة" ص 121 - 122، وفي "موضح أوهام الجمع والتفريق" 2/ 106، وابن عساكر في "تاريخ دمشق" 16/ 366، وابن بشكوال في "غوامض الأسماء" ص 360، وابن الأثير في "أسد الغابة" 2/ 331 من طرق عن زيد بن الحباب، به. وبعضهم سمى الأعرابي في روايته: سواء بن قيس، قال الحافظ في "الإصابة" 3/ 251: أظنه وهمًا، ثم ذكر رواية المطلب بن عبد الله بن حنطب التي أشرنا إليها قريبًا، وقد جاء اسمه فيها سواء ابن الحارث، كرواية الأكثرين.

Note / Clarification: Some of them gave the name of the Bedouin as "Sawa' bin Qays", but al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar says in "al-Isabah" (3/ 251) that this is an error (wahm); then he mentioned the narration of al-Muttalib bin Abd Allah, in which the name comes as "Sawa' bin al-Harith", which is the narration of the majority.
