It is narrated from Umarah bin Khuzaymah, from his paternal uncle (who was a Companion of the Messenger of Allah), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bought a horse from a Bedouin. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took him along behind him in order to pay him the price of his horse. He (peace and blessings be upon him) walked quickly while the Bedouin lagged behind. Meanwhile, some people met the Bedouin and began bargaining with him over the horse, not knowing that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had already bought it, until some of them offered the Bedouin a higher price. When the price went up, the Bedouin called out: "O Messenger of Allah, if you are going to buy this horse then buy it; otherwise I am selling it." When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the Bedouin's call, he stood up, came to him and said: "Did I not buy it from you?" He said: "No, by Allah, I did not sell it to you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I did buy it from you." The people gathered around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Bedouin while the two of them were disputing the matter. The Bedouin began saying: "Bring a witness that I sold it to you." Then Sayyiduna Khuzaymah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I bear witness that you (peace and blessings be upon him) bought it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to Khuzaymah and asked: "On what basis do you bear witness?" He said: "On the basis of affirming you (as a Prophet)." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made the testimony of Khuzaymah equal to the testimony of two men.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih" Note / Clarification: Ibrahim bin al-Husayn is Ibn Dizil, Abu al-Yaman is al-Hakam bin Nafi', and Muhammad bin Abi Atiq is Ibn Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr al-Siddiq, who is "thiqah" (trustworthy) Important point: Imam al-Daraqutni in "Su'alat al-Hakim" and al-Dhahabi in "Tarikh al-Islam" (3/ 729) declared him trustworthy; we mentioned the trustworthiness of Ibn Abi Atiq because the hafiz al-Mizzi and Ibn Hajar missed mentioning al-Daraqutni's declaration of his trustworthiness Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (36/ 21883) and Abu Dawud (367) narrated it through the chain of Abu al-Yaman al-Hakam bin Nafi'. Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i narrated it at (6198) through the route of Muhammad bin al-Walid al-Zubaydi, from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, with this same chain. Note / Clarification: The word "yaludhun" means: they surround him. Main discussion: Imam al-Khattabi says in "Ma'alim al-Sunan" (4/ 173): This is a hadith that many people use in the wrong place; a group of the people of innovation took from it the permission to bear witness for anyone known to be truthful on every claim he makes, whereas the correct meaning of the hadith is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled against the Bedouin on the basis of his own knowledge, since the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was truthful and righteous in his word, and the testimony of Khuzaymah served to confirm his (peace and blessings be upon him) word and to strengthen his case against his opponent; so his testimony and his confirmation came to be counted as equal to the testimony of two men in other cases.
