Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2125

حدَّثَناه أبو عليّ الحسين بن علي الحافظ، أخبرنا عَبْدان الأَهْوازي، حدثنا نَصْر بن علي الجَهْضَمِي، حدثنا الحارث بن مُرّة، حدثنا عِسْل بن سفيان، عن ابن أبي مُلَيكة، عن عبد الله بن عباس قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "ليس مِنّا مَن لم يَتغنَّ بالقرآن" (1). ليس مُستبدَعٌ من عِسْلِ بن سُفيان الوهمَ، والحديثُ راجعٌ إلى حديثِ سعد بن أبي وقاص، والله أعلم. فأما الحديث الذي اتفق الشيخان على إخراجه في "الصحيحين" فغَيرُ هذا المتن: اتفقا على إخراج حديث الزُّهْري، عن أبي سلمة، عن أبي هريرة، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "ما أذِنَ اللهُ لشيءٍ ما أذِنَ لنبيٍّ يَتغنّى بالقرآنِ" (1).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not recite the Qur'an in a melodious voice."
It is not unlikely that 'Isl bin Sufyan made an error, and this hadith in fact goes back to the hadith of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, and Allah knows best. As for the text whose recording the two Shaykhs agreed upon, it is other than this text: they agreed upon the narration of al-Zuhri that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah does not listen to anything as attentively as He listens to a prophet reciting the Qur'an in a melodious voice."
It is not unlikely that 'Isl bin Sufyan made an error, and this hadith in fact goes back to the hadith of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, and Allah knows best. (1) صحيح من حديث ابن أبي مُلَيكة عن ابن أبي نهيك عن سعد بن أبي وقاص، كما تقدم بيانه عند الرواية السالفة برقم (2123)، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف عِسل بن سفيان. عَبْدان الأهوازي: هو عبدان بن أحمد بن موسى.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih" through the chain of Ibn Abi Mulaykah from Ibn Abi Nahik from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, as passed earlier (at no. 2123). However, this present chain is weak because of the weakness of Isl bin Sufyan.
وأخرجه أبو يعلى (4755) عن نصر بن علي الجهضمي، بهذا الإسناد. غير أنه قال فيه: عن عائشة.
Reference / Source: Abu Ya'la narrated it through the chain of Nasr bin Ali al-Jahdami, but it contains the words "from A'ishah".
