Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This chain is "sahih" through Ibn Wahb (whose name is Abd Allah). As for Isma'il bin Abi Uways, he is "hasan al-hadith" in corroborating chains and supporting reports, and "da'if" when alone. The narrator from him, "al-Hasan bin 'Ali bin Ziyad", was narrated from by a group, and no criticism or praise of him is transmitted; he is corroborated in what he narrates, so he is "hasan al-hadith", in sha' Allah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Abi Dhi'b: his name is Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman.
Note / Clarification: It will come again with the author at (7486) by way of Abu al-'Abbas.
Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it at 13/ (7878) from Isma'il bin 'Umar, at 14/ (8432) from 'Uthman bin 'Umar, and at 26/ (16372) from Rawh bin 'Ubadah, all three from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group contradicted them and narrated it from Ibn Abi Dhi'b, from Sa'id al-Maqburi, from "Abu Shurayh al-Ka'bi" (instead of Abu Hurayrah), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It was recorded by al-Tayalisi (1437), Ahmad (16372) and (27162), al-Bukhari (6016), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" 22/ (487), and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9087) and "al-Adab" (77). After his narration, al-Bukhari alluded to the hadith of Ibn Abi Dhi'b from al-Maqburi from Abu Hurayrah.
Important point: A difference over the narrator of the hadith, when he is a Companion, does no harm, and some scholars held that both narrations are "mahfuz" (preserved).
Note / Clarification: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar says in "Fath al-Bari" 18/ 371 (in our edition): "It contains a negation of faith from the one who harms his neighbour by word or deed; what is meant is 'complete faith', and there is no doubt that the sinner is not complete in faith."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) This is an "oversight" of the author (may Allah have mercy on him), because the two Shaykhs did not record the hadith of Abu Hurayrah by this route; rather, Muslim alone recorded it at (46) by way of al-'Ala' bin Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah. I did not find the route "Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj" to which the author alluded.
