Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2059

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fasting and the Qur'an will intercede for the servant (on the Day of Resurrection). Fasting will say: O my Lord, I kept him away from food and desires during the day, so accept my intercession for him. And the Qur'an will say: I kept him away from sleep at night, so accept my intercession for him. So the intercession of both of them will be accepted."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak due to the weakness of Huyayy bin Abdullah al-Ma'afiri. Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli is Abdullah bin Yazid al-Ma'afiri.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad recorded it through the route of Ibn Lahi'ah from Huyayy bin Abdullah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A supporting report for the intercession of the Qur'an is the hadith of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) which Ibn Hibban recorded ("The Qur'an is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted"); according to al-Mundhiri its chain is jayyid (good).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Likewise the hadith of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), which will come at no. (2096), is also a supporting report and is sahih.
