Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2053

حدَّثَناه علي بن عيسى الحِيْري، حدثنا مُسدَّد بن قَطَن، حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شَيْبة، حدثنا وكيع بن الجرّاح عن سفيان، عن عاصم بن أبي النَّجُود، عن زِرِّ بن حُبيش، عن عبد الله بن عمرو، عن النبي ﷺ قال: "يُقال لصاحب القرآن يومَ القيامة: اقرَهْ وارقَهْ، ورَتِّل كما كنتَ تُرتِّل، فإنَّ منزلتَك في آخر آيةٍ تقرؤُها" (1).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection it will be said to the companion of the Qur'an: Recite and ascend (through the ranks), and recite with measured recitation (tartil) just as you used to recite in the world, for your station is at the last verse that you recite."

(1) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل عاصم بن أبي النجود. سفيان: هو الثَّوري.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "hasan" on account of Asim bin Abi al-Nujud. Sufyan is "al-Thawri".
وأخرجه أحمد 11/ (6799)، والنسائي (8002)، وابن حبان (766) من طريق عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، وأبو داود (1464) من طريق يحيى بن سعيد القطّان، كلاهما عن سفيان الثَّوري، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن صحيح.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban recorded it through the route of Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, and Abu Dawud through the route of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan; both transmitted it from Sufyan al-Thawri with this same chain. Imam al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan sahih".

Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Abu Hurayrah or Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with them both), mentioned at the end of the previous note, is a supporting report for it.
