It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I met Jibril (peace be upon him), and he gave me glad tidings and said: Your Lord says: Whoever sends blessings upon you, I will send down mercy upon him, and whoever sends salutations of peace upon you, I will send down peace upon him. So I prostrated to Allah in gratitude (for these glad tidings)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
