It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the people of Paradise? They are those who are considered overpowered and weak (in the eyes of the people of the world). And (shall I tell you that) the people of Hell are every coarse, harsh-tempered person who struts about out of arrogance."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but they did not record it.

Grading: It is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to supporting reports). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although its narrators are trustworthy and the chain outwardly appears muttasil (connected), in reality it is "munqati'" (broken). According to the narration of the trustworthy imam Abd Allah bin Yazid al-Muqri', Musa bin Ali reports from his father that this "reached him" (balaghani) from Suraqah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), which establishes the break. Important point: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, in "Ithaf al-Mahara" (4967), objected to al-Hakim declaring it sahih "on the condition of Muslim". Important point: This narration will come again with the author (al-Hakim) further on at number (6676) through the route of Abd Allah bin Salih from Musa bin Ali, like the narration of Zayd bin al-Hubab. (3886). Grading: Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri' also narrated it through another chain, "Musa bin Ali from his father from Abd Allah bin Amr", and this chain is "sahih". Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it (11/6580), and it will come again further on at number (3886). (7010). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In the narration of Abd Allah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), Imam Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak corroborated al-Muqri', as found in the Musnad of Ahmad (7010). Grading: In summary, the narration of Ali bin Rabah from Abd Allah bin Amr is "sahih and muttasil", whereas his narration from Suraqah bin Malik is "not connected"; rather, it is merely a balagh (a report that reached him), and Allah knows best. Scholarly guidance: For its other supporting reports, see the commentary on hadith number (6580) of the "Musnad Ahmad". Note / Clarification: "Al-Ja'zari" means a person who is rude, harsh-tempered and arrogant. Note / Clarification: "Al-Jawwaz" means a coarse, crude person who displays pride and arrogance in his gait.
