Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1965

أخبرنا عَبْدان بن يزيد الدّقّاق بهَمَذان، حدثنا إبراهيم بن الحسين بن دِيزِيل، حدثنا آدم بن أبي إياس، حدثنا شَيبان بن عبد الرحمن، عن قتادة، عن أنس بن مالك قال: كان رسولُ الله ﷺ يقولُ في دُعائه: "اللهمَّ إني أعوذُ بك من العَجْز والكَسَل، والجُبْن والبُخل، والهَرَم والقَسْوة، والغَفْلة والعَيْلة، والذِّلة والمَسْكنة، وأعوذُ بك من الفَقر والكُفر، والفُسوق والشِّقاق والنِّفاق والسُّمعة والرِّياء، وأعُوذ بك من الصَّمَم والبَكَم والجُنون، والجُذام والبَرَص، وسيِّئ الأسقام" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in his supplication: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wal-harami wal-qaswah, wal-ghaflati wal-'aylah, wadh-dhillati wal-maskanah, wa a'udhu bika minal-faqri wal-kufr, wal-fusuqi wash-shiqaqi wan-nifaqi was-sum'ati war-riya', wa a'udhu bika minas-samami wal-bakami wal-junun, wal-judhami wal-baras, wa sayyi'il-asqam' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, extreme old age, hardness of heart, heedlessness, destitution, humiliation and neediness; and I seek refuge in You from poverty, disbelief, sin and disobedience, discord, hypocrisy, seeking fame and showing off; and I seek refuge in You from deafness, muteness, insanity, leprosy, vitiligo and all evil diseases).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

وأخرجه ابن حبان (1023) من طريق عبد الصمد بن النعمان، عن شيبان، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban narrated it through 'Abd al-Samad bin al-Nu'man from Shayban.
وأخرجه مختصرًا أحمد 20/ (13004)، وأبو داود (1554)، وابن حبان (1017) من طريق حماد بن سلمة، وأحمد 20/ (13172) و (13233) و 21/ (13417)، والنسائي (7831) و (7842) من طريق هشام الدستوائي، والنسائي (7876) من طريق همام بن يحيى، ثلاثتهم عن قتادة، به. لكن زاد هشام في روايته على اختصارها: "وفتنة المحيا والممات".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Hibban and al-Nasa'i narrated it through Qatadah, and it also contains the addition "the trial of life and death".
وأخرجه مختصرًا كذلك أحمد 19/ (12113) و (12166)، والبخاري (2823) و (6367)، ¤ ¤ ومسلم (2706)، وأبو داود (1540) و (3972)، والنسائي (7838) وابن حبان (1009) من طريق سليمان التيمي، وأحمد 19/ (12225) و 20/ (12616) و 21/ (13304) و (13365) و (13524)، والبخاري (2893) و (5425) و (6363) و (6369) وأبو داود (1541)، والترمذي (3484)، والنسائي (7836) و (7887) من طريق عمرو بن أبي عمرو مولى المطلب، وأحمد 20/ (12833) و (13076) و (13133) و 21/ (13472) و (13782)، والترمذي (3485)، والنسائي (7837) و (7840) و (7878)، وابن حبان (1010) من طريق حميد بن أبي حميد الطويل، والبخاري (4707)، ومسلم (2706) من طريق شعيب بن الحَبْحاب، والبخاري (6371) من طريق عبد العزيز بن صهيب، والنسائي (7835) من طريق المنهال بن عمرو، كلهم عن أنس بن مالك. لكن زاد سليمان وحميد وشعيب في رواياتهم على اختصارها الاستعاذة من عذاب القبر، وزاد سليمان وشعيب الاستعاذة من فتنة المحيا والممات، وزاد عمرو بن أبي عمرو والمنهال بن عمرو الاستعاذة من ضَلَع الدَّين وغَلَبة الرجال، وزاد عمرو وحده الاستعاذة من الهم والحزن، وزاد حميد وشعيب الاستعاذة من فتنة الدَّجال.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This hadith is reported from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) through many sahih chains (al-Bukhari, Muslim and others), which mention seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave, the trial of the Dajjal, the burden of debt and being overpowered by men.
