Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1930

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that a blind man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Supplicate to Allah Almighty to grant me well-being (my sight). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, you may defer that, and if you wish, I will supplicate." He said: Please supplicate. The narrator said: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to perform ablution well, pray two rak'ahs, and then make this supplication: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka wa atawajjahu ilayka bi-nabiyyika Muhammadin (peace and blessings be upon him) nabiyyir-rahmah, ya Muhammad, inni atawajjahu bika ila rabbika fi hajati hadhihi fa taqdiha li, Allahumma shaffi'hu fiyya wa shaffi'ni fih' (O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), through you I turn to your Lord concerning this need of mine so that it may be fulfilled for me. O Allah, accept his intercession on my behalf and accept my supplication on his behalf).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
