It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating in some of his prayers: "O Allah, make my reckoning an easy reckoning." When he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) finished the prayer, I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is meant by an easy reckoning? He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "That the servant's record of deeds is looked at and he is then pardoned. O Aishah, whoever is cross-examined in his reckoning (on that day) is ruined. And whatever affliction befalls a believer, Allah makes it an expiation for his sins, even the thorn that pricks him."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of Muslim, but the two of them (Imam Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this wording. They only agreed upon the narration of Ibn Abi Mulaykah from Aishah, in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is cross-examined in the reckoning will be punished."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts the word "bin" was mistakenly changed into "an" (from).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (B) and the printed book the word has been distorted into "yulqi".
Grading: This hadith is sahih, except for the supplication in prayer "اللهم حاسبني حسابًا يسيرًا" (O Allah, make my reckoning easy), because this addition is "shadh". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Ishaq is alone in this addition, while the trustworthy narrator Abd al-Wahid bin Ziyad did not mention it in Musnad Ahmad (42/25515). Reference / Source: Ibn Ishaq's narration is in Musnad Ahmad (40/24215), in which he explicitly stated his hearing from Abd al-Wahid bin Hamzah. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (7372) narrated it via Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid, through the chain of Ibn Ishaq. (8943). Important point: This narration will come again in the author's work at numbers (949), (7828) and (8942), where the hearing is explicitly stated.
(7891). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated it through various routes from Ibn Abi Mulaykah. Important point: A similar narration will come again in the author's work at number (7891). (2572). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The two Shaykhs agreed upon the narration of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that every hardship that befalls a Muslim (even being pricked by a thorn) becomes an expiation for his sins. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5640) and Muslim (2572).
