حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن قُتيبة، حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا إسماعيل بن عيَّاش، عن راشد بن داود، عن يعلى بن شدّاد قال: حدثني أبي شدّادُ بن أوس، وعبادةُ بن الصامت حاضرٌ يصدِّقُه، قال: إِنا لَعِندَ رسول الله ﷺ إذ قال: "هل فيكم غَريبٌ؟ " - يعني أهلَ الكتاب - قلنا: لا يا رسول الله، فأمر بغَلْقِ الباب، فقال: "ارفَعوا أيدِيَكُم فقولوا: لا إله إلَّا الله" فرفعنا أيدِيَنا ساعةً، ثم وَضَعَ رسول الله ﷺ يدَه ثم قال: "الحمدُ لله، اللهم إنَّك بَعَثْتَني بهذه الكلمة، وأمرتَني بها، ووعدتَني عليها الجنةَ، إنك لا تُخْلِفُ الميعاد" ثم قال: "أبشِروا، فإنَّ الله قد غَفَرَ لكم" (2). قال الحاكم: حالُ إسماعيل بن عياش يَقرُب من الحديث قبلَ هذا، فإنه أحد أئمة أهل الشام، وقد نُسِبَ إلى سُوء الحفظ، وأنا على شَرْطي في أمثاله.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), while Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) was present there confirming him, that he said: We were in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is there any stranger (that is, anyone from the People of the Book) among you?" We said: No, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the door to be closed and said: "Raise your hands and say: 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah)." So we kept our hands raised for a while, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lowered his hand and said: "All praise is for Allah. O Allah, You sent me with this very word, You commanded me with it, and You promised me Paradise for it, and indeed You do not break Your promise." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rejoice, for Allah has indeed forgiven you."
Imam al-Hakim says: The condition of Isma'il bin Ayyash is just like that of the narrator of the previous hadith; he is one of the imams of the people of Syria, but poor memory has been attributed to him, and I hold to my condition regarding narrators like him.

(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف راشد بن داود - وهو الصنعاني الدمشقي - فإنَّ له مناكير. قال الذهبي في "تلخيصه". راشد ضعَّفه الدارقطني وغيره، ووثقه دحيم.
Grading: Its chain is weak because Rashid bin Dawud (al-San'ani al-Dimashqi) is weak; his narrations contain munkar reports.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis" that Rashid was declared weak by al-Daraqutni and others, while Duhaym declared him reliable.
وأخرجه أحمد 28/ (17121) عن أبي اليمان الحكم بن نافع، عن إسماعيل بن عياش، بهذا الإسناد.
