Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Hasan li-ghayrihi: This narration is hasan li-ghayrihi (hasan through other chains), but this chain is "weak" because of the weakness of Zakariyya bin Manzur, who is Zakariyya bin Yahya bin Manzur al-Madani, attributed to his grandfather.
Technical note: Abu Muslim is Ibrahim bin Abd Allah al-Kashshi.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Awsat" (2498) and in "al-Du'a" (33) (and by his route Abu Tahir al-Silafi in "al-Du'a" (25)) from Abu Muslim al-Kashshi; Abu al-Abbas al-Isami in "Juz' Hadithih" (6) and Abu Bakr al-Dhakwani in his "Amali" (49) also narrated it by two other routes from Abu Muslim al-Kashshi, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (18/72), al-Khattabi in "Gharib al-Hadith" (2/145), Ibn Jumay' in "Mu'jam Shuyukhih" (p. 105), al-Quda'i in "Musnad al-Shihab" (861) and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Qada' wa al-Qadar" (246) narrated it by various routes from Abd Allah bin Abd al-Wahhab.
Reference / Source: Ibrahim al-Harbi in "Gharib al-Hadith" (3/1194) and al-Quda'i (861) narrated it by way of Abbad bin Musa, and Ibn Adi in "al-Kamil" (2/212), al-Quda'i (859), al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" (9/464), Qawam al-Sunnah in "al-Targhib wa al-Tarhib" (1264) and Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (1411) by way of Isma'il bin Ibrahim al-Turjumani, both from Zakariyya bin Manzur.
Grading: According to Ibn al-Jawzi it is not authentic; he quoted Yahya as saying Zakariyya is not thiqah, and al-Daraqutni called him "matruk".
Variation in the chain: In the narration of Ahmad bin Ubayd from Zakariyya, Fulayh bin Sulayman is named in place of Attaf bin Khalid; Ibn al-Sammak (in the second part of "al-Fawa'id al-Muntaqat" (69)) and Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi (in "al-Targhib fi al-Du'a" (5)) narrated it that way.
Reference / Source: Ibn Shahin in "al-Targhib fi Fada'il al-A'mal" (149) and Abu Tahir al-Silafi in "al-Du'a" (28) narrated it by way of al-Harith bin Abi al-Zubayr al-Madani, from Abayah bin Umar, from Hisham bin Urwah.
Technical note: We found no biography of Abayah bin Umar, but Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (3/75) among those from whom al-Harith bin Abi al-Zubayr narrated, and al-Dhahabi mentioned him in "al-Siyar" (6/42) among those who narrated the hadith "Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it" from Hisham bin Urwah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Quda'i (860) narrated another route from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) by way of Muhammad bin Abd Allah from his father, but we could not identify this Muhammad bin Abd Allah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there are the hadiths of Thawban and Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), which come next.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The hadith of Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) is in Musnad Ahmad (36/22044), but its chain is weak.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is also narrated from Ubadah bin al-Samit (as part of a hadith, in Ibn Abi Hatim, al-Tabarani and others), whose chain is also weak, and from Abu Hurayrah (in al-Bazzar (8149) and others), whose chain is very weak; according to al-Haythami (al-Majma' 10/146), Abu Hurayrah's chain contains Ibrahim bin Khuthaym bin Irak, who is "matruk".
