Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1826

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not ask of Allah, Allah becomes angry with him."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak). No one narrated from Abu Salih al-Khuzi except Abu al-Malih al-Farisi (also called al-Madani because he settled in Madinah; his name is Subayh, or it is said Humayd). Abu Salih has no hadith other than this one, and he is alone in narrating it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He is disputed: Ibn Ma'in declared Abu Salih weak, while Abu Zur'ah said "there is no harm in him". According to al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar he is "layyin al-hadith", meaning his narration is accepted only where he is corroborated, and here he is not corroborated.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tirmidhi (3373 m) narrated it from Ishaq bin Mansur, from Abu Asim, with this chain, and gave Abu al-Malih's name as "Humayd"; al-Tirmidhi said: this Humayd is called al-Farisi, and he settled in Madinah.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (15/9719, 16/10178) and Ibn Majah (3827) narrated it by way of Waki', and al-Tirmidhi (3373) by way of Hatim bin Isma'il, both from Abu al-Malih. Al-Tirmidhi said it is known only by this one route.
