Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1776

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) threw pebbles at the Jamrah that is near the mosque of Mina, he would throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir with each pebble. Then he would move ahead of it, stand facing the qiblah, raise his hands and supplicate, and he would stand for a long time. Then he would come to the second Jamrah and throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir with each pebble. Then he would descend to the left side of the valley, and stand facing the qiblah with his hands raised. Then he would come to Jamrat al-Aqabah and throw seven pebbles at it, saying the takbir with each pebble. Then he would turn back and would not stand there. Al-Zuhri said: I heard Salim bin Abdullah narrate the same from his father from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Ibn Umar also used to do the same.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it!

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note: Muhammad bin Yahya is al-Dhuhli, 'Uthman bin 'Umar is Ibn Faris al-'Abdi, and al-Zuhri is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Shihab.
Reference / Source: al-Bukhari (1753) mentioned it in mu'allaq form (without a full chain) and said: "Muhammad said: 'Uthman bin 'Umar narrated to us…".
Technical note: There is a difference of opinion over the name of al-Bukhari's teacher "Muhammad": whether he is Ibn Bashshar, Ibn al-Muthanna or al-Dhuhli; this narration of al-Hakim favours his being al-Dhuhli.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Ahmad (10/6404) and al-Nasa'i (4075) through 'Uthman bin 'Umar.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bukhari (1751, 1752), Ibn Majah (3032) and Ibn Hibban (3887) through two routes from Yunus bin Yazid.
Important point: al-Hakim's inclusion of it in the Mustadrak is an oversight on his part, since it is in al-Bukhari.
