Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1774

It is narrated from Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I do not throw pebbles (during the days of Tashriq) until the sun has passed its zenith, because Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to throw pebbles on the Day of Sacrifice (the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah) before the zenith, but on the days after that he threw them after the zenith."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Grading: The hadith is sahih, but this chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of Humayd bin al-Khuwar. He is alone in mentioning 'Ata' (Ibn Abi Rabah) in this chain, and has contradicted the trustworthy students of Ibn Jurayj who narrate it as 'Ibn Jurayj from Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir'.
Technical note: According to Ibn Khuzaymah, if Ibn Khuwar has accurately preserved the name of 'Ata' in this chain, then it is "gharib".
