It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) that: We were with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) at Arafah, and he asked me: O Sa'id, why is it that I do not hear the people reciting the talbiyah? I said: They are afraid of Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). So Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) came out of his tent and called aloud: 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk' (Here I am, O Allah, here I am). Then he said: These people have abandoned the Sunnah out of hatred for Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note: The manuscripts have "'Ali bin Mushir" here, which is a mistake; the correct name is "'Ali bin Salih", as in "Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah" (2830). Khalid bin Makhlad narrated it through 'Ali bin Salih from Maysarah bin Habib, as in al-Nasa'i (3979) and al-Bayhaqi (5/113). Note / Clarification: This error most likely originates from a defect in one of the old manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak", or it is a slip of the pen by the author (al-Hakim) himself. And Allah knows best.
Grading: This is a "munkar report" (an unacceptable narration). Criticism of a narrator: Although Khalid bin Makhlad al-Qatawani is "hasan al-hadith" as long as he does not contradict others or bring something objectionable, Abu Dawud called him "saduq and a Shi'i", Ibn Sa'd said that he was extreme in Shi'ism and munkar al-hadith, and al-Juzajani described him as a reviler who openly proclaimed his (wrong) creed. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (The editors say:) This narration stems from his Shi'ism, and he is alone in narrating it; otherwise, what connection does abandoning the talbiyah on the day of 'Arafah have with love or hatred of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)?! Especially since reciting the talbiyah at 'Arafah is a matter of ijtihad over which there has been long-standing disagreement among the Companions. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (3979) narrated it by way of Ahmad bin 'Uthman al-Awdi from Khalid bin Makhlad from 'Ali bin Salih from Maysarah bin Habib with this same chain.
