Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1723

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no day on which Allah Almighty frees servants from the Fire in such great numbers as the day of Arafah. He draws near (in a manner befitting His majesty), then boasts before the angels, saying: What do these people want?"
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Sahih li-ghayrih: This hadith is sahih through its supporting reports, and this chain is "strong" (qawi) on account of Makhramah bin Bukayr (bin Abd Allah bin al-Ashajj). His narration from his father is by "wijadah" (narrating from a written document), but this does not weaken his narration; indeed, Imam Muslim used it as proof.
Technical note: Ibn Wahb refers to Abd Allah, and Yunus bin Yusuf refers to Ibn Himas al-Laythi.
Reference / Source: Imam Muslim (1348), Ibn Majah (3014) and al-Nasa'i (3982) narrated it through various routes from Ibn Wahb with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this subject, the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) will come later at no. (1726).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A narration like the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is reported as marfu' from Abd Allah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad (11/7089): "Allah the Exalted boasts to His angels on the evening of 'Arafah about the people of 'Arafah, saying: Look at these servants of Mine, who have come to Me dishevelled and covered in dust."
Grading: There is no harm in its chain (la ba'sa bih).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is narrated from Jabir bin Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ibn Hibban (3853), and there is no harm in its chain.
