Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note: Malik bin Isma'il refers to Abu Ghassan al-Kufi, 'Asim refers to Ibn Sulayman al-Ahwal, and al-Sha'bi refers to 'Amir bin Sharahil. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (3837) narrated it through Harun bin 'Isa from al-'Abbas bin Muhammad al-Duri with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author (al-Hakim) declared it "gharib", and al-Bayhaqi (5/86), following him, also said that it is gharib with this wording. Ibn Khuzaymah (2750) said that he had misgivings about this chain and feared that Abd al-Salam or a narrator below him had erred in the words "during tawaf". Important point / Summary: Ibn al-Turkumani said in "al-Jawhar al-Naqi" that al-Bayhaqi's calling it "gharib" does not necessarily mean it is unestablished, since it is supported by the narration of Ibn Abi Shaybah (14849) from Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he (the Prophet, upon him be peace) asked for water while circumambulating, and was brought a bucket of nabidh from the siqayah, which he drank. Reference / Source: Abd al-Razzaq (9766) and Ibn Abi Shaybah (14847) narrated through 'Ikrimah bin Khalid that a man from the family of Wada'ah reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water while circumambulating.
Important point / Summary: (1) He is probably alluding to the narration in al-Bukhari (1637, 5617) and Muslim (2027) through 'Amir al-Sha'bi, that Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) Zamzam water to drink and he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it standing. In one narration of Muslim it says that he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water while at the House.
